Blogmas Day 18 – Let’s Talk Tea – Bluebird Tea Co – Christmas Cake Review

Hey There Teacups! I told you there would be more festive Let’s Talk Tea posts before the end of blogmas didn’t I? Todays Let’s talk tea posts features a festive black tea blend from a company I’ve been wanting to feature for a long time!

That company is Bluebird Tea. Bluebird Tea and their amazing  teas and tisanes  have been on my Wishlist for a long time. When I found out they had a stall at this years Christmas market I knew that no matter what I had to visit and pick something up.

Of course I had to go for one of their festive blends, I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about their seasonal ranges and which better one to start with that Christmas. In planning my trip there I had my mind set of picking up some of their Vegan Snowball Black Tea blend but upon arriving I found out it was only available online. Totally not a problem though because they had so many other amazing Christmas inspired blends to choose from.

In the end I ended up going for their Black Tea based Christmas Cake blend. As soon as I smelt this blend I knew I had to take it home with me because it shot me right back to my chai masterclass with T2. As soon as I opened it I was hit with so many traditional Christmas scents and adored the addition of the snowflake sprinkles.

Ceylon black tea, vanilla pieces, almond pieces, cinnamon, cloves, orange peel, spruce needles, snowflake sprinkles (sugar, rice flour, hardened peanut oil, potato starch, flavour, gum arabic (E414), potassium sorbate (E202), colours (E171)),  flavour. (Vegan Friendly | NOT suitable for those with Nut allergies)

This blend is literally Christmas cheer encapsulated in a mug. Of course you get the traditional flavours of a Christmas cake from the cinnamon, orange and cloves but the almond and the vanilla really add a nice subtle sweetness that reminds me of sugar cookies. One ingredient that I wasn’t expecting to be so prominent in the flavour was the pine needles, They add such a fresh minty note to the overall taste but don’t overpower anything at all. The only bad thing I have to say about this blend is that it’s a little heavy on the cloves (their such a strong heavy hitting ingredient). That’s the joy of loose leaf though you can just take them out if you don’t want them. I love how customisable loose leaf tea is.

The Ceylon base really stood its ground as well and along side  the orange peel added a great citrusy note. It’s a little bit astringent but nothing I can’t handle. Remember those snowflakes I mentioned earlier … well they disappeared but don’t live in fear they turned into GLITTER  (For those of you who don’t know me I absolutely love glitter and this made me a lot happier than it should have)  and make this blend look instantly magical. Overall I really do love this blend I’ll be so sad when I don’t have any left. (I’ll just have to keep my fingers crossed they bring it back next Christmas)

    That sounds delicious! A lot of the seasonal teas I’ve tried this year are heavy on either the cloves or cinnamon. I like both, but only to a certain extent.
