Hey There Teacups! How’s Friday treating you all so far? I’m back again today with another Let’s Talk Tea post this time around it’s all about a Rooibos based blend from a company called Ninja Brew. They were kind enough to send me some samples of their teas so you’ll probably see them pop up on my blog a few times over the next few months.
As you all know from past posts my relationship with rooibos has been a bit of a weird one. When I first tried it many years ago I wasn’t as fan at all. But slowly and surly I began to drink more of it for review on my blog and my taste buds started to love it. I’m still not completely sold on it but there’s time. So with that in mind you can probably imagine I was a little hesitant to try this blend, but on aroma alone this one caught my attention. It smelt like sweet almond shortbread and there was know way that I could hold off on trying it.
Dry Leaves
Aroma: Sweet, Vanilla, Almond, Herbal, Floral, Spicy, Woody, Caramel, Honey.
Colour: Rooibos – reddish-brown colour |Calendula petals light yellow | Almond pieces – Cream
Shape: Needle-like rooibos leaves – Full somewhat twisted Calendula petals & Whole almond pieces
Wet Leaves
Aroma: Sweet, Vanilla, Slight Almond, Woody, Caramel, Honey
Colour: Rooibos – dark reddish-brown colour |Calendula petals – much brighter yellow | Almond pieces – Cream
Shape: Slightly expanded needle-like rooibos leaves – open flat Calendula petals & Whole almond pieces
This rooibos based blend is a delicious combination of honey, woody and herbal-floral notes with a slightly sweet taste and subtle astringency. I was really surprised by how naturally sweet this blend was, it smelt sweet but I wasn’t expecting it to carry through as much as it did. All of the flavours are amazingly balanced and I’m glad that the Rooibos was left to shine in it’s own light. I really do think that this is one of the best rooibos blends I’ve ever tried and I’m so thankful to Ninja Brew for giving me the chance to try it.
Overall Teacup Rating: 5/5
You can find out more about Ninja Brew Teas and purchase this blend for yourself here. As always if you have any questions at all either stick them in the comments or send them to me on twitter and I’ll answer them as soon as possible.
Speak to you all again on Friday. Happy Steeping – Kimberley
