Hey there Teacups! I realised recently that it’s been a while since I’ve written a How Do You Brew? recipe post that has focused completely on using a tea or tisane to make a drink. So, when my most recent Leaves of The World T-rep box arrived, and I saw that the theme was iced/cold brewed teas and cocktails/mocktails I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to make a mocktail (I don’t drink so I live for amazing mocktails) using one of the blends in the box before the box even got here so when I opened the box to see one of their new blends Sunburst I simply couldn’t stop thinking of different ideas for mocktails, the hardest part of it all was choosing which one to do for this post.
Before I get into the recipe part of this post here’s a run down of Sunburst the based tisane that I’m going to be using to create my mocktail.
Ingredients: Carrot, Apple, Sea Buckthorn Peel, Ginger, Curcuma (Turmeric), Pumpkin, Orange Wedges, Anise & Natural Orange Flavour. (Vegan Friendly)
With my mocktail in mind I (as I always do) went through my t-rep box when it arrived and look at / smelled each and everyone of the blends that Sam & Jason included to see which one would be the best for me to use (check out my Instagram to see what else was in this month’s box). I opened Sunburst last and up until that point I was really worried that I hadn’t yet found the right one for my recipe idea and I was going to have to change my idea but as soon as I opened Sunburst and it’s intense orange colour and orange smell hit me I knew it was going to be the perfect one to use. I wish you could all smell this blend through the screen because it has the most beautiful citrus heavy aroma in the world, not only that but it has the most aesthetically pleasing/ photogenic colour palette as well.
The Recipe for this Mocktail is incredibly simple all you need is:
1 x T2 Jug-A-Lot (It doesn’t have to be that one, but you will need something to cold brew the tisane in)
1x Glass (to put your mocktail in one it’s finished steeping)
1x Sachet of Leaves of The World’s Sunburst
1x Bottle of Lemon & Lime Sparkling Water (Sugar & Artificial Flavouring Free Of Course)
1x Large Orange
(If you have more of a sweet tooth than I do I would suggest just adding a little bit of agave to round it all off. It is quite naturally sweet though, so I would recommend you try it before adding any just in case)
1. Fill your Jug with the bottle of sparkling water (I was luckily that my jug held the full bottle).
2. Place 4 leaf loaders of Sunburst into your infuser.
3. Slice up the orange and place it in the jug with the sparkling water. You’ll want to add about 4-5 slices. (Wrap but what you don’t use to garnish your mocktail later)
4. Place the infuser into your jug (remember to make sure you don’t make it airtight) and leaves to steep in the fridge overnight.
5. Once your tisane has finished steeping you can start to put your mocktail together. In your glass add 2-3 slices of orange and almost fill it with ice from there all you need to do is add your tisane and enjoy to your hearts content.
I’ve never steeped a tisane in sparkling water before, but I wanted to take a risk with this mocktail recipe and it paid off. This was the most refreshing tisane-based drink I’ve had in a long time and I’m going to be making so much of this up until the moment I have no Sunburst left with how well this worked though I can’t promise that I won’t be buying more. If you end up making this mocktail yourself tag me in any posts or picture because I would love to see and hear how well it works for you.
