Hey there Teacups! I know I don’t normally post twice in day but because of my migraines getting in the way of me getting content out I’m playing catch up at the moment when companies are kind enjoy to send me their teas to try I hate to let both them and all of you who have taken your time to help me get my blog to where it is now down so I’m determined to work through my backlog of posts and get them all out (doing blogmas next month should help). The tea I’m going to be reviewing for this Let’s Talk Tea post is Eteaket’s Tomatin Whisky Tea. I was very kindly sent this along with some of their other blends to try not to long ago and truthfully the reason It’s taken me up until now to try this is because this tea is rather smoky and you all know I’m not the biggest fan of smoky teas and sometimes they can set my migraines off so I tend to shy away from them. My fiancé on the other hand is much more of a fan of smoky teas and loved whisky so I asked him to help me with this review.Here’s what Eteaket have to say about this unique blend on their website: ‘’Get your hands on our Tomatin Barrel Aged Whisky Black Tea while you can – Europe’s first barrel aged tea! We’ve blended three black teas from Assam, Ceylon and Fujian and added a little natural bergamot flavour and a sprinkle of cornflowers. Then the magic bit. We’ve worked with the Tomatin Distillery in the heart of the Scottish Highlands to suspend our blend in their whisky barrels. By letting the tea leaves age in this way, the leaves naturally pick up the complex smoky, fruity flavours of the whisky barrel without overwhelming the character of the tea leaves themselves.’’
Ingredients: Assam black tea, Sri Lanka (Ceylon) black tea and Chinese (Fujian) black tea with natural bergamot flavour and cornflowers

Tea Tasting Notes
Before I get into what I though of this tea here’s what my fiancé thought of it: (He enjoyed it much more than I did. It’s deffinelty more his cup of tea than it is mine.) The tea is light on the nose, but still retains its smoky and woody charm. The tea is surprisingly not too harsh on the palette to start with, but builds up an almost bonfire like feel in the mouth. It’s smooth, well balanced and remains constant until the end, where the sweet burning wood feel remains for a short time after.
The bergamot comes through well, but not in the way you would get from an Earl Grey. Overall this tea is fun and would be a great regular choices for whisky fans and non whisky fans alike. I think I knew he was going to enjoy this blend before he even tried it and I’m very glad I was right, I deffinelty think he will be finishing off the sample I was sent and I may buy him some more at some point as well.Normally I’m not a huge fan of smoky blends like this but with the bergamot in this it reminded me of an earl grey and I was intrigued to see what it was like taste wise. I had two sips of the glass I made up for this tasting session and I did enjoy it much more than I have enjoyed any other smoky tea that I’ve tried but even just those two sips set off a migraine so as much as I did enjoy the sips I had I can’t say I would reach for this because the smokiness is different a migraine trigger for me. But that’s completely my fault and not the fault of Eteaket they have put so much hard work into this blend and you can deffinelty tell that when you drink it and they can live in pride that they managed to create a smoky based tea blend that I actually enjoyed (and wish I could have drank more of).
It’s a very full bodied tea and has quite a heavy mouthfeel that is a little drying towards the back of the mouth, it’s naturally much more sweet than I thought it would be and the bergamot does well the fight against the smoky and woody notes. I would say that this reminds me of a light Earl Grey made with a Lapsang Socuhong base and I can imagine it would change a lot of people’s minds when it comes to smoky blends.
