Hey there Teacups! I’m finally back with another Let’s Talk Teaware post and this time around I’m going to be reviewing Ello Products Campy vacuum insulated stainless steel travel mug (18oz). I’ve followed Ello Products for a while on insta so to have them enjoy my blog enough to want to collaborate with me means so much. They very kindly sent me their Black Campy travel mug to try out for a bit and then review for this series and I have pretty much used it every single day since it arrived. I don’t go travelling a lot or camp a lot but this mug is perfect for days when I do long blog post writing sessions and keeps my tea hot for just the right amount of time. Here’s what Ello Products have to say about their Campy travel mug on their website: NOT YOUR GRANDPA’S CAMP CUP. The Ello Campy vacuum insulated stainless steel travel mug combines the vintage aesthetic of a camp cup with easy travel capabilities. A soft touch handle with cork inlay and leak-proof slider makes the Ello Campy the perfect travel mug for your drinking needs One of my favourite aspects of this travel mug is the cork inlay on the handle it really ties together the rustic aesthetic of the mug and I love that so much attention has been put into little details like that. As far as I’m aware the Campy cup come in three different colours Pink, Blue and Black. I was very kindly sent the black and white one which I don’t think is currently available on the site but I’m sure it will be soon.
I’ve used this mug almost everyday since it arrived at my house mostly because it’s the perfect for keeping my tea hot while I’m writing and the fact that it holds almost 2 standard cups of tea at once is great as well because it means I’m not having stop writing or taking blog pictures all the time to go and make tea which is incredibly convenient. It terms of keeping my tea hot for a long time it does a great job even with the slide on the lid open and that aspect of it is great and couldn’t be much better.
But I don’t love the way that the lid is put together while most of it is easy to clean the plastic seal that keeps it from leaking is very hard to clean and when you pull it away it does feel like if you pull it down to clean it’s is going to break. But part of the seal does come off to be cleaned so I’ve been using a bottle brush to clean it and luckily the bristles seems to be able to reach the non removable parts quite well but I do still have to pull it down and I’m worried I’m going to end up breaking it. While It does it’s job of making it leak-proof that element could be made in a way that makes it a bit easier to clean. Maybe a release could be added to it that would allow you to take it off and clean the part separately
After having travel cup after travel cup claim to be leak proof and being the complete oppisite I was hesitant to belive that this was actually going to deliver and stay completely leakprrof but it does I’ve testing it countless times and non a drop will come out of it even when it’s full to the brim with tea and tunred upsidedown and on its side there is no signs of leaks anywhere and for a clumsy person like me thats ideal. the slide on the top does open and close with a good amout of force and sometimes when you open it a few drops do splash out but I’ve learnt to expect that now and I’m willing to deal with that to have a travel cup finally be fully leak proof.
I would suggest hand washing this only the lid is suitable for the dashwashers top rack but I wouldn’t chance it I don’t trust that a diswasher wouldn’t completely ruin it. I would suggest washing it out the moment you finish drinking what is in it becuase the plastic does hold on to strong smells and that will rule out any chance of that happening. I’m incredibly thankful that the team at Ello Products sent me this specific cup becuase out of all the travel cups on thier website this one is the most ‘me’ one on there and I’m going to get so much use out of throughout 2019 and beyond.
Overall Teacup Rating: 4/5
In terms of keeping my hot tea hot and this did great and it was going to get a 4.5 rating for me but I had to knock off 0.5 of a point from my rating due to the fact that a few days after I started using it the paint around the rim had started to chip and come away and the paint on the bottom did the same. I have told Ello about this and they have passed the pictures I send along with my advise onto their team.
If you want to find out more about Ello Products and buy one of these mugs for yourself, you can do both here. As always if you have any questions either stick them in the comments or send them to me on Twitter/Instagram @teaisawishblog and I’ll answer them all as soon as I can.
Speak to you all again soon. Happy Steeping – Kimberley
