Hey there Teacups! I’m back today with another Let’s Talk Tea post and this time around I’m going to be reviewing Tea By Daniel’s WOW! Oolong blend. T By Daniel very kindly sent me a box full of their blend to try and when going through them all this one stood out to me the most because of its amazing aroma and I knew I had to make it the first one I tried/reviewed because I had to see if it was going to be as good taste wise. You all know I’m crazy about oolong and oolong based blends at the moment so I was really happy to see that they had included this in the package they sent it couldn’t have arrived at a better time. Here’s what T By Daniel have to say about this blend on their website: ”I can simply be described in one word. Just take a sniff and you’ll know why. Then take a sip, and you’ll really know why. Oolong tea helps to speed up the metabolism (healthy lifestyle required) plus it tastes amazing! See, I told you you’d be left with one word. Wow!”
Ingredients: Oolong Tea, Nougat Bits, Almonds, Honey, Vanilla, Natural Flavour
Tea Tasting Notes
The aroma of this tea reminds me of three things… Angle Food Cake, Butterscotch Ice-cream and Toffee Apples an its phenomenal and the first thing I said after I smelt it for the first time was actually WOW that smells amazing so it really does stand up to it’s name aroma wise. Taste wise all of those sweet somewhat nostalgic notes that were strong in the aroma were a little bit muted and much more delicate but I’ll be honest I was expecting that and it didn’t effect my enjoyment of the tea at all. Once I took my first sip I was instantly reminded of toffee popcorn because the oolong provided a buttery popcorn like undertone and it paired perfectly with the nougat and almond.
I’ve had teas with nougat bits in, in the past and they have never melted into the tea like the ones in this one did and once I noticed that it was melting I was expecting this tea to have an oily film but much to my delight there wasn’t one and the fact that the pieces melted made this a naturally sweet blend that needs no sweetener at all.
For this tasting session I had this hot but I can imagine this would probably be really nice cold brewed. I’ve seen a few people say that they have used this blend to make both hot and iced lattes but for me this blend is much too delicate to even think about having it with milk. It’s a delicate blend and there are lots of subtle notes that would be easily overpowered by adding something like milk. I can see this as being the perfect sweet spring blend for an Easter afternoon tea as I think it would pair really well with scones or sugar cookies. I wasn’t sure which of the blends I wanted to try when I first opened the box that I was sent but this one was the best one to start with and it’s set the bar very high for the rest of the teas they sent.
Overall Teacup Rating: 5/5
