Let’s Talk Tea | Hojicha Co. – Gold Roast (Hojicha) | Review

Hey there Teacups! I’m back today with another Let’s Talk Tea post and this time around I’m going to be reviewing Hojicha Co’s – Gold Roast Hojicha. When it comes to tea I’ve only ever had Hojicha once and that was a powdered latte blend I was gifted so I’ve never really had a premium quality Hojicha. So I couldn’t have been happier when Hojicha Co. said they wanted to collaborate with me. There was no way I was going to say no to the opportunity after seeing a few of my tea blogger friends rave out their teas. I pride myself on covering all aspects of the tea world and the things It has to offer so my goal for 2019 is try all the teas I’ve never really tried/featured before and truly be able to be a place where tea lovers can come to find all of the information they could possibly need to know about certain teas no matter what they are looking for.

Hojicha will be the first of the teas I am really going to deep dive into throughout this year and focus on but it won’t be the only one there will be more coming over the next few months as well. The delicate tea has a satisfying umami flavour and exquisite golden colour. Hojicha Gold Roast is a single-origin tea made from unshaded Sencha leaves harvested in the early spring. The whole leaves are then lightly steamed, rolled, dried, and roasted to create the well-rounded high grade tea. Hojicha Gold Roast can be sipped on anytime as it is low in caffeine. We distribute authentic and fresh Japanese green tea directly from the fields of Kyoto. Originating from the prestigious region of Uji, home of Japanese tea, our products are categorized as Uji-cha, or Uji tea. Tea Tasting Notes

Both dry and steeping this tea gave such an amazing aroma with notes of dark chocolate, nuts, caramel/burnt caramel with underlying woody & vegetal notes. It smells a bit sweeter than it actually tastes but those caramel and chocolate notes from the aroma were among the strongest taste wise which made me a very happy bunny. I don’t really notice anything green about it aside from a ever so slight vegetal aftertaste toward the back of the mouth. The nuttiness hits me most with the aftertaste, it wasn’t overly strong but it paired with the subtle woody and vegetal notes perfect and they all lingered for a long time after each mouthful. It’s very roasty and earthy, But it’s not as heavy as I expected it to be (because the aroma is quite and it’s not even the slightest bit bitter. it’s Quite smooth, in fact and actually has somewhat of a creamy element to it.

58380960_332230527325357_3887230176391593984_n.jpgI can see Hojicha being a game changer for me green tea wise and I’ll be enjoying this bag to no end throughout the next few months as well as the dark roast Hojicha I was also sent to try. If I hadn’t have known this was a green tea before trying it, it honestly could have passed for an oolong. I’ve had this hot and iced now and while it was delicious both ways I think that I prefer it much more hot as it’s a little too ‘roasty’ for me when it’s iced. I’ve seen a few other tea people use this and the dark roast to make Hojicha lattes so I’ll have to give that a go at some point something tells me that if it works I’ll probably love it. This was the best Hojicha to start of my Hojicha Journey with in my opinion and after enjoying this so much I really can’t wait to see what their Dark Roast Hojicha is like.
