Hey there Teacups! I hope you’re all doing well I can’t quite believe we are at the end of April already this year is going by so fast. Before I get into this post I just want to apologise for how sporadic my posts schedule has been towards the end of this month. I had to take a little break over a weekend because of a few bad migraine days in a row and in doing so I fell behind. I’m almost completely caught up now and by the start of May things should be back to normal. But anyway I’m back today with another Let’s Talk Tea post and this time around I’m going to be reviewing Debonair Tea Co’s – Masala Chai. Here’s what Debonair Tea Co. has to say about this blend over on their website: Rich Assam black tea, hand-blended with fiery ginger, aromatic cardamom, sweet cinnamon and vibrant red peppercorns. Best served with milk and sugar, this is a wonderfully warming, spicy treat.
Ingredients: Assam black tea, ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, red peppercorns. (May contain traces of cereals, almonds, hazelnuts, milk, soya, mustard and sulphur dioxide.)Steep 1tsp per cup for 3-5 minutes in 95-100°C water. Best enjoyed with warmed milk and sugar.
Tea Tasting Notes
I’ve tried a lot of new Chai blends this year so far with lots of extra added ingredients and while I have enjoyed trying some new things all the added Ingriendts seem to take something away from chai that I love and trying this no frills masala chai blend really reminded me of just how much I enjoy a classic. I’ll be honest when I first smelt this tea dry the spices didn’t come through at all it was all ginger in the aroma so I was expecting to try it and not enjoy it at all because the spice element wasn’t strong enough well I couldn’t have been more wrong because I ended up loving this blend and the spices are of a perfect strength for me. The added peppercorns and ginger really take this blend to another level and add a bright naturally sweet & spicy note to this Chai. I was really surprised by just how much the spices came through in this blend and even thought they were quite strong the didn’t end up overpowering each other or the black tea resulting in a beautifully balanced blend.
So far I’ve had this both with an without milk and I have to say its amazing both ways which you don’t normally find with chai blends. Normally the spices are weirdly bitter and have a strange bite to them without milk and honey but that wasn’t the case at all when it came to this blend. Without milk and honey they spices can be tasted more clearly and it’s pretty much autumn in a cup and one of the most comforting teas ever. With milk and honey this becomes much more of a sweet dessert chai and it’s perfect for after lunch or dinner when you are craving a sweet treat. This has to be one of this best Masala chai’s I’ve ever tried and I will be buying so much more to drink throughout autumn and winter.
