Let’s Talk Teaware | UmiTeaSets – Blue & White Porcelain Gaiwan | Review

Hey there Teacups! I hope you’re all doing well, I’m back today with another Let’s Talk Teaware post and this time around I’m going to be reviewing one of Umi Tea Sets’ – Blue & White Porcelain Gaiwans. Umi Tea Sets are a UmiTeaSets is a leading online retailer of quality tea sets, teapots and tea cups, established in 2012 in the city Shaoguan, Guangdong of China. They very kindly asked if I wanted to try out one of their Gaiwans and after seeing all of the beautiful teaware they had to offer, I of course jumped at the opportunity and quickly said yes.

It did take a little while for my Gaiwan to get here but that was always going to be the case considering it had to go all the way from China to the UK. It was fine though because it gave me a chance to look through the Gaiwans they had to offer and wonder which one they were going to send me as they didn’t tell me before they sent out my order which was a really nice surprise. EenbLeSr.jpgAs you can probably tell from the title of this post Umi Tea Sets chose to send me their Blue & White Porcelain Gaiwan and I’m so glad that they did because it’s so cute. I’ve never had a Gaiwan like this; the two I already have (one porcelain and one glass) are very plain and don’t have much detail on them at all, so this one will certainly stand out in my collection and add a little bit more variety to it.

This Gaiwan is also much larger than I thought it would it would be and holds so much more liquid than I thought it would. As previously mentioned it did take a little while to get to me but one it did I was very pleased to see that so much care and attention had gone into making sure that the Gaiwan was packed safely and wouldn’t brake while being shipped. I’ve seen far to many companies overlook thing like safe packaging when shipping teaware and there is nothing more annoying than ordering new teaware and having it break before it even gets to you. Those companies really could learn a lot from the team at Umi Tea Sets.

Gaiwan: 250 ml or 8.5 oz, Width 10.5 cm (4.1″), Height 9 cm (3.5″).

This Gaiwan is smooth, flawless, perfectly shaped and even in both colour and glaze. It’s larger than my other Gaiwans but still fits pretty much perfectly in my hand. It does get hot quite quickly but I wouldn’t advise using teaware like this with boiling water anyway. Even with boiling water it doesn’t get hot enough to burn you but it does get quite warm. It’s the perfect size for one person if you want to sit, relax and enjoy tea alone but also holds enough tea to cater to at least three people if all three were using small tasting cups.

With both of my other Gaiwans I’ve had a little bit of trouble getting the lids to fit evenly but that wasn’t the case with this one at all. The lid fits perfectly and doesn’t tend to slip while pouring either, meaning that this Gaiwan doesn’t drip and leave tea everywhere after you pour to your cup or drink from it which is something you hardly ever find in most Gaiwans these days.

All in all I think this Gaiwan is excellent and I’m very thankful that I was given the chance to try it out. I highly recommend Umi Tea Set to anyone out there looking to add some great quality teaware to their collection. Umi Tea Sets stock so many things I’m sure you’ll find everything you are looking for on their Website. I can wait to treat myself to some of their other teaware and tea accessories as soon as my tea & teaware buying ban is over and I have a little bit more space to store my & show my collection.

Overall Teacup Rating: 5/5

If you want to find out more about Umi Tea Sets and purchase some of their beautiful teaware for yourself, you can do both here. If you have any questions at all either stick them in the comments or send them to me on Twitter/Instagram @teaisawishblog and I’ll answer them all as soon as I can.

Speak to you all again soon. Happy Steeping – Kimberley

I have an easy gaiwan set with that exact pattern on it! I don’t remember if it’s from Umi or not though, as I bought it from a company via Amazon.

I’m still getting used to gaiwans. I have a really pretty one that holds 120ml, so it’s not too large for my small hands, but I also don’t have asbestos fingers yet 🙂
