Let’s Talk Tea | T By Daniel – Chai Noir | Review

Hey there Teacups! I hope you’ve all had a great Thursday so far. I’m back today with another Let’s Talk Tea post and this time around I’m going to be reviewing T By Daniel’s – Chai Noir blend. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now you’ll know that I’ve tried a few T By Daniel blends prior to this one and I’ve loved each and every one of them. You’ll also know that black tea based blends, especially chai’s, are my favourites and my go-to for this time of the year especially (but I do drink them all year round). So when I saw this on the T By Daniel website I knew I had to give it a try and see if would stand up to some of my all time favourite chai blends out there right now.RoundPhoto_Oct082019_203618.pngHere’s what T By Daniel have to say about this blend over on their website: ”Hey! Tea Tasting Notes

For this tasting session I tried this blend both on it’s own and also with honey and milk. I did this because I wanted to see what it was like in it’s own light and I also wanted to see how it would stand up to milk and honey as when I have chai I almost always have it with milk and honey as that’s how I enjoy it the most. I wanted not only to see how it would work in my day to day life but also to give you all a well rounded review. This is definitely a different kind of chai than I am used to with the candied nuts included, adding a sweet note that I wouldn’t normally expect.

The black tea base its strong enough that it provides the classic strong malty base we would all expect with a slight honey like undertone to boot. As this blend does have a black tea base the overall mouthfeel is a little dry but its not overly drying and didn’t stop me enjoying this. On it’s own it was enjoyable but it was also a little astringent which was to be expected with a black tea but it did surprise me that the sugar from the candied nuts didn’t cancel that out.

Despite the spices being quite prevalent in the dry leaf in both the cup I had of this on its own and the cup I had with milk and honey the spices were quite lack lustre which really saddened me. One thing I love about chai is a good strong spicy kick and this blend really falls flat on that aspect. That’s not to say that they were there at all they were just weaker than I expected they would be meaning it didn’t really feel like I was drinking a chai. Most people who love chai will probably love this blend but when it comes to chai I am very picky and it has to have a strong spice element for me to fully enjoy it.

That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy it, it is still a really nice blend I love the natural sweetness, the strong malty base, the slightly sweet fruity note from the apple and the creamy vanilla aftertaste. I wouldn’t drink this on its own but with milk and honey or as a latte this blend is fantastic so I would recommend that you prepare it that way. I’ve finished the bag of this that I was sent now because I was preparing it as a latte and dusting it with ground cinnamon and it was such a indulgent sweet treat after dinner without having to add any additional sweetener. In fact its a perfect replacement for a pudding and I would re-purchase that blend just for that reason.

Overall Teacup Rating: 4.5/5 | Had this chai just had a little more of a spicy kick it would have gotten a 5/5 from me.

If you want to find out more about T By Daniel and purchase some of this delightful Chai for yourself, you can do both here.
