Tea Together Tuesday (3) | The Perfect Tea For Spring

Hey there Teacups! it’s time again for Tea Together Tuesday and today’s prompt (may 19th) is: ”What Tea or Tisane do you think is perfect for spring?”. Out of all of the prompts so far for Tea Together Tuesday this one has been the easiest one for me to answer because my mind went to one specific tea straight away and that tea is the Chasandai: Sakura Sencha with Sugared Sakura Leaves blend. I first tried this tea back in December of 2019 for my Teamas series in collaboration with Yunomi Tea who gifted me the sample. I enjoyed this tea so much the first time I tried it that I’ve only had it twice since because I didn’t want to use it too quickly and not be able to buy any more because of my tea buying ban. I never normally do this with teas as I like to enjoy them at their best but this tea is so special that I knew as soon as I tried it the first time that this was going to be one of those special occasion teas for me.

Those of you who are new to my blog won’t know this yet but I am crazy for absolute anything Sakura so I am always on the look out for teas that use it authentically because I love the way Sakura tastes, It’s such a light and delicate floral cherry note that I love and I am hardly ever able to find teas and tisanes that contain the actual blossoms rather than the artificial flavours companies like to use that just completely miss the mark, which I why I love this tea so much.

When I think of spring my mind instantly goes to Sakura and Sakura Season when most people visit japan to experience Hanami (cherry blossom viewing). Which means that most Sakura themed products are released throughout each spring (aside from here in the UK because we are boring). Each year I’m always so jealous of all the amazing Sakura products I see around the world and I’ve had a visit to japan during spring on my bucket list for such a long time. So when writing out these prompts with Jann my mind instantly went to this tea and there was no doubt in my mind that it had to be the one I pick for this post.

This is a delicious blend of Sencha, sugared Sakura (Japanese cherry blossom) leaves, and dried Sakura blossom petals from tea factory Chasandai in Shimane Prefecture, Japan, and the reason I love it so much is because it’s perfectly balanced. The Sakura isn’t overly sweet but it’s a nice subtle sweetness that pairs very well with the vegetal Sencha base which is incredible and totally not overly grassy like some can be. The Sencha base has a nice buttery quality to it that reminds me a bit of one of my favourite oolongs that is creamy, buttery, and vegetative.

Most of this blend’s very notable sweetness come from both the sugared leaves and the Sakura blossoms which are naturally quite sweet and somewhat floral. Somehow both of those things together remind me some what of Matcha sugar cookies with Sakura icing, rather than like a typical floral tea that would be all artificial Sakura and absolutely nothing else. It certainly doesn’t give off a heavy floral taste the way rose petal tea does. It’s a very subtle touch and I love it.

This is by far the best Sakura green tea that I have ever tried because it uses Sakura and Sakura leaves authentically and does not try and replicate their flavours with artificial cherry flavouring and rose petals like most use rather, than paying for the Sakura to provide that note. Because this tea is so perfectly balanced it allows both the Sencha and Sakura to shine brightly. This is my perfect spring tea because transports me to a fresh spring day with the siting in the sunshine with a fresh breeze blowing on my face that carries with it the aroma of fresh cut grass and bloomed flowers. I’ve not made the most of this tea during this spring (thought I still have a week or two of it left) and it’s too light of a tea to enjoy through the summer so I probably will try and make what I have last until next spring so I can truly make the most of it and enjoy it throughout the season that it is in my opinion made for.

I really enjoyed drinking a cup of this earlier on this morning and after I took my first sip I was beyond thankful that past me had chosen to savour this tea and not enjoy it all after it was first opened. I’m so thankful we chose to do this prompt in May so I could be reminded of just how much I enjoy this tea and enjoy it on slight warm spring morning.
