Hey there Teacups! It’s time again for another #TeaTogetherTuesday! Can you believe this is the 11th one, I feel like its only been a week or two since we started time are really has started going by so fast. Before I get into answering this weeks prompt I just want to take a moment to thank you all for joining in with tea Together Tuesday each week, Jann and I have both been completely blown away by how many people join in each week and just how much effort people have been putting into the content they create to answer these prompts. We were worried when we started this that nobody would join in with us but boy were we wrong. We would to to carry this on for as long as we can and as long as there are people who want to participate we will do are best to keep it going.
This weeks prompt is: What is your favourite way to jazz up iced tea / tisanes? This was very kindly suggest to us by Nadia (@nadiadlvm) over on Instagram. I was so glad when I saw a prompt like this was suggest as you all know as much as I love straight / non blended teas, I love to experiment with tea and add it into different food and drink recipes. At this time of the year I cold brew and ice so many teas and tisanes and I’m always trying to find a way to change things up and give myself lots of options to choose from. If I listed them all in todays post I would be here forever, so for this weeks Tea Together Post I’m just going to share the things I do with iced tea most often, then I’ll share the rest in recipe posts over time.
Matcha & Fruit Juice | This is my go to throughout most of the summer on days where I don’t want something as heavy as an iced latte. This works best with high quality ceremonial matcha as it can stand it’s ground against the fruit juice but I wouldn’t rule out trying this with flavoured matchas as well. My favourite juices to mix matcha with are pineapple (you can find a recipe for my Pineapple Matcha Refresher Here) and apple juice. The apple juice is also great hot with matcha in the winter when you are looking for something a bit more cosy and heartwarming. For me this is so refreshing and sometimes I get so bored of soya milk and just want a bit of a change. This for me is much more refreshing and because the juices are sweet I don’t have to add in any honey. This is definitely something I would recommend trying during this summer in place of a latte to chance things up a bit.
Matcha Fresh | Matcha Fresh is a very simple recipe I was taught to make when I when to my first one on one matcha masterclass with the team at T2 Meadowhall. It’s simply just their ceremonial matcha (made with filtered water) iced with some lemon slices thrown in (you can find a full step by step recipe in this post – here). That masterclass was a few years ago now and I ever since I’ve not stopped making this. I know in term of Jazzing Iced Tea up this is quite simple but it just works. It lets the matcha shine and the lemon just adds a nice citrus hit without overpowering it. This is one of the most refreshing drinks I’ve ever made with matcha and just writing about it is making me want glasses full. When I do make this I love to start my mornings with it as it does a great job at kick starting my day without trigger my migraines like coffee would. When I did my masterclass I was completely new to matcha so I’m so thankful the team took time to teach me this recipe as it’s stuck with me ever since.
Cold Brewed/Iced Tisanes w/ Sparkling Water | The first time I ever tried this (I think) was when I made a cocktail for a How Do You Brew? recipe post I did with Leaves Of The World’s – Sunburst tisane (You can find that recipe here), and it worked so well that first time that I’ve not stopped doing it since. I can have fizzy drinks because they trigger migraines for me but sprinkling water is just the right amount fizzy that it doesn’t kick start my migraines so for me adding it to cold brewed / iced tisanes has been a perfect way to satisfy that fizzy drink craving. Sometimes I’ll add in some fresh fruit when I add sparkling water if I have it and it always results in such a delicious and refreshing summer treat. I also don’t add any sweetener either so it’s another way for me too cut back on using a lot of honey. I don’t like unflavoured sparkling water though so I always use a flavoured one with a flavour that matches the flavour profile of the tisanes.
Using Iced Tea To Make Lemonade | When I was in America in 2017 I tried Earl Grey Lemonade for the very first time at Earl Of Sandwich (Disney Springs) and it was honestly delicious. Ever since I’ve been trying to find a good replacement for that as I’m not going back to america until 2021. I’ve never been able to find a good replacement for it so I decided to try and have a go at making it myself. I’ll be sharing the recipe soon here on my blog but it’s really simple to make all you need is your favourite Earl Grey, 3-4 lemons and water and the resulting drink is incredible. Here in the UK lemonade is a fizzy drink and the (still) lemonade they have in America is very hard to come by so I have to make it myself. I really do wish it was as popular here in the UK as it is in America. Yes, is not exactly healthy because of the sugar but most of the delicious things in the world aren’t healthy and life is short so I’m not going to stop myself from enjoying delicious things because they aren’t healthy.
Honorable Mentions | I don’t want to overload you with stuff to read through today but there are a few little things I do with iced tea somewhat regularly that I didn’t want to end this post without talking about. The first of those is adding Milk Oolong to cold brewed / iced tisanes. Doing this adds a nice creamy note to fruit tisanes and it’s a great way to give them more depth. It works best with berry tisanes and tisanes with peach in them. Another Honorable mention is adding shots of matcha to other iced tisanes and teas this works especially well with flavoured matchas.
So there you have it those are my current favourite ways to jazz up iced teas and tisanes. You all know how much I love experimenting so I was in my element writing up this post.
