Let’s Talk Tea | NudiTea – Happy Blend | Review

Hey there Teacups! Sorry for the lack of posts since this week’s matcha Monday post I just needed a little bit of a break and to put my mental and physical health first for a few days. However I’m back today with a Let’s Talk Tea post and this time around I’m going to be reviewing Nuditea’s – Happy Blend which is a tisane that features rose and cacao amongst other ingredients. I’ve had nothing but great experiences with everything I’ve tried so far from Nuditea (I think my favourite so far has been their Biscuit Brew) but this is the first tisane I’ve tried from Nuditea and I was intrigued to see whether or not it would live up to the standard that the tea based blend I’ve tried from them have set so far.

Here’s what Nuditea themselves have to say about this blend over on their website: “If you’re feeling blue or just need some extra positivity in your day, our Happy Blend is perfect for you. We’ve used a delicious combination of Cacao, Cinnamon and Rose Petals for our little hug in a mug. We learnt about this combo in India, where each of those ingredients is touted for having heart-opening, happiness-inducing and hormone-balancing properties.”

“Then we added in some of our own magic, in the form of Schisandra Berries, which in Chinese Medicine are believed to help build resilience to stress and are brilliant source of energy. The result is a real pick-me-up, perfect whenever you need a little boost of positivity in your life.”

Ingredients: Cinnamon, Cacao Shells, Rose Petals, Rose Buds, Schisandra Berry, Damiana

Tisane Tasting Notes

For this tasting session I tried this blend two ways: on its own (hot) and with just honey added (hot). After trying both of those ways I decided not to try it with milk added because it seemed to me as if milk would over-power some of it’s ingredients quite easily and to me it was really well balanced and I didn’t want to ruin that. The most prominent note of this blend are most definitely the cinnamon (its there but isn’t overly spicy and more sweet), the rose which adds a a nice sweet floral note as well; I was worried that with the use of the buds and the petals the rise might be too over powering but that wasn’t the case at all, and the cacao. I’ll be honest I wasn’t too sure what the damiana and the schisandra berries were adding to overall flavour profile as I had never had a blend with them in before but after doing a little bit of research on what they taste like I was easily able to pick out what they were adding to the blend.

The damiana (is a shrub native to southern Texas in the United States, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean. It belongs to the family Passifloraceae. Damiana is a relatively small, woody shrub that produces small, aromatic flowers. The leaf and stem are used to make medicine) and after doing a little iot of research I was able to find out that taste wise it’s supposed to impart mint and spicy notes but can mostly be likened to hickory which is definitely what I would say it adds to the overall flavour profile of this blend. Its a little on the savoury side (which I wouldn’t normally like) but with all the sweet notes naturally in this blend is balances out.

The Schisandra berries, also known as the five flavour fruit, is a fruit-bearing vine. It’s purple-red berries are described as having five tastes: sweet, salty, bitter, pungent, and sour. It definitely doesn’t impart all of those things into this blend though, I get a little bit of a sour note in the after taste which can probably be attributed to these berries but other than that not a lot but they do have a lot of other ingredients in this blend to contend with. All in all though I do feel like it’s a really well balanced blend. It has sweet, savour and herbal notes and they all work rally well together I definitely thought some of them would clash but I’m really glad that wasn’t the case.

What I will say though is I do prefer this with honey but that’s not the fault of the blend at all because like I said I do feel like it’s really well done, it’s just because of the way that cacao tastes on it’s own can sometimes, it tastes a little too dark chocolate like for me and that’s not my jam at all. Luckily though a little bit of honey normally does a great job of toning that down a little and once that darker chocolate note is gone this blend is absolute heaven for me. If you’re a fan of dark chocolate though I have no doubt you’ll be able to enjoy this without adding absolutely anything at all into it. It’s a really unique tisane and definitely one I never would have pick up for myself in the past but would consider buying again in the future.
