Hey there Teacups! I’m back today with another Let’s Talk Tea post and this time around I’m going to be reviewing Sip’s Chai’s – Rose Kashmiri Chai. As you all know I love Chai, so I’m always on the look out for different Chai companies that are creating delicious authentic products or putting their own unique twist on Chai. So when Sips Chai contacted me over on Instagram right at the end of 2020 and asked if I wanted to try out one of their blends, of course I said yes because when they contacted me they were a relatively new company and I was really intrigued to see what they had to offer in terms of their Chai blends.
Ingredients: Green Tea, Rose Peony Petals, Cardamom, Star Anise, Salt, Baking Soda
Tea Tasting Notes
For this tasting session I wasn’t feeling well enough to make this on the stove top, so I followed the instructions as close as I possibly could and used my gravity steeper + milk frother instead, and while it wasn’t truly authentic as per the instructions, I was still able to produce a cup that came close-ish and was delicious! Normally with a blend that has a green tea base I wouldn’t add milk in at all, even with green tea based Chai but I actually preferred this with milk and I was definitely surprised to see that it managed to stand it’s ground against the addition of milk because not many green teas do. The rose element is strong but not perfume like or overpowering and is muted just a little by the milk which did a great job of stopping it from being too much to handle. It also pairs perfectly with the cardamom which was quite strong and as you all know I adore cardamom, so I was really excited to find that, that element was so prominent.
The star anise is also pretty prominent and didn’t wavier at all even with the additional dash of milk and a touch of honey. Normally I’m not a huge fan of strong star anise blends, but this really works and the balance is just right. The strength from the star anise mostly comes through in the aftertaste and lingers long after you have finished your sip, so it rounded everything off well. I tried this both on it’s own and with milk and I have to say it’s definitely better with milk and a touch of honey than on it’s own, the creaminess from the milk works perfectly with all of the other notes and stops the star anise especially for being too much. I’m so glad I was able to get a touch of pink into the cup even though I didn’t prepare it traditionally. Overall I really enjoyed this and if this cup prepared my way was this good I can’t imagine how much better it’s going to get once I have chance to prepare it traditionally
